How To Install Telegram on Ubuntu 16.04

Telegram is an open source instant messaging client that places a lot of value on user’s privacy and data encryption.

Assuming you require a Debian distribution package download, follow these simple steps to install Telegram on Ubuntu 16.04 that will integrate properly with your GNOME desktop environment.

Open your terminal with:

Ctrl+Alt+T

A PPA for Telegram is available for Ubuntu 16.04 so all you need to do is run the following commands one after the other:

sudo apt-get update

You will be prompted to enter your password. There is no visual feedback so enter it cautiously.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/telegram
press ENTER to continue

sudo apt-get install telegram

Should you fail to find Telegram as an application on your Dashboard after you've installed it, simply log out of your device and log back in, then you should be able to find it.
